The Must Have Holiday Palette: Kat Von D Metal Matte Eyeshadow Review + Swatches9:16:00 PM
Two weeks ago, I went to Atlanta for a Bachelorette party for one of my girlfriends. It was honestly one of the best vacations I have had in a while. While there, I was able to do a little shopping, which of course means I picked up some new makeup.
I was really proud of myself for not going too crazy, but I had to have the Kat Von D Metal Matte Eye Shadow palette ($60), after hearing and seeing so many people rave about this. Since the VIB and VIB Rouge sale is currently going on, I figured I would drop a review just in case anyone planned on purchasing it!
The MetalMatte Eyeshadow Palette is a mashup of bold colors and must-have textures, celebrating the two sides within everyone—whether it’s soft and romantic, rock ‘n’ roll, or both. The palette’s top row features an explosive lineup of exclusive, never-before-seen metallic shades in Kat Von D’s max-pigment Metal Crush Eyeshadow formula, including Synergy, a bestselling bronze from the original collection. The bottom of the palette is a rainbow array of buttery mattes, in a range of tones—from dark and moody to pastel neutrals—all in Kat’s signature blendable, pigmented eye shadow formula. This palette’s array of tones and textures gives you endless combinations for a number of eye looks. Get inspired by the three fearless tutorials, each with step-by-step instructions.
OMG!!! This palette is everything y'all. It features 9 of her Metal Crush eye shadows and 13 matte eye shadows. Let's take a look at some swatches!
Metal Crush Eyeshadows
Packaging 4.5These eye shadows come in strangely huge packaging. The palette was much larger than I expected, but that not necessarily a bad thing, but its not travel friendly in my opinion. Each shadow is 1.7 grams and is a nice size. There is also a nice size mirror which is always a plus.
As far as color selection of the palette, this palette offers some great neutrals with some pops of color. My favorites in the palette are defnitely Velour (matte blue), Oak (matte medium brown) and Flash (metallic yellow gold). I think that the colors pair well together, so this is definitely a palette you can use on its own.
Pigmentation 4.9As you can see from the swatches above, both the metal and matte shadows in this palette swatch amazing! The Metal shades build up to full opacity in one swipe and the mattes were really smooth and not chalky at all. I was honestly wowed by the smoothness of the mattes so gorgeous.
Performance 4.5I was so impressed by most of the shadows in this palette. The metallics are super smooth and blended out like a dream on the eye. I also love that these apply to full opacity with a flat brush although you could totally use your fingers and still get a great effect. The matte eyeshadows also blended well and can be packed on the lid easily. The only thing that I didn't care for about this palette is that some of the metallics ( Glitz, Twinkle and Volt) kind of run together in my opinion. I wish there was little more color variety among the Metal Crush Shadows.
Final ThoughtsI will make sure to insert a look I created using just this palette so you guys can see how well the shadows pair together. I think it came out nice and the shadows are really awesome quality and worth the price tag in my opinion. Although I wish there was some more variation in color tones, I still really love this palette and that definitely shouldnt be a deal breaker for anyone considering this.
