My Foundation Routine: Products + Pictorial

By Trecee Hutchinson - 10:50:00 AM

Foundation is one of my favorite parts of makeup because a good foundation and foundation routine can change your life. It also pulls a look together.

Let's talk products.

Moisturizer

The first step to any foundation routine should always be a good moisturizer. Because my skin is SUPER dry I mix Palmer's Eventone Sun Balm with another more traditional type of moisturizer or serum. Today I am using This one by L'oreal  called the Youth Code Texture Perfector and I like to let this soak into my skin. I also always apply under eye cream

Primer

A good primer is also essential for a flawless look. I like to switch between Benefit Porefessional or NYX Shine control. I love how this smooths my skin out and makes my foundation stick a lot better and go one smoother. Both of these prolong my makeup so today I'm going to mix them. Focusing the product on my T- Zone.

Color Corrector

For this step, I almost exclusively use the L.A Girl Pro Concealer in Orange. This really helps to even out my skin under my eyes and around my mouth. i just spread an even layer and blend it out with my ELF Small Stippling brush. It's kind of hard to see in the pic because they window is super bright and I have slight orange undertones in my skin, but this concealer definitely does the job.

Foundation

Now for the fun part! I typically like a matte foundation despite having dry skin. I have so many foundations that I like to rotate through. My holy grail foundation is the MAC Studio Fix Fluid, but I use Revlon Colorstay and L'oreal Infallible Pro matte for every day. I like to use this large Morphe Buffer Brush and I always go back in with my a damp Beauty Blender ( I like the Real Techniques sponge too) and make the finish flawless but still natural. Today, I am going to use Revlon Colorstay and a Morphe MB39. I just dot the foundation on to my skin and buff it into my skin using pressing motions.

Concealer

Concealer is also one of those items that I have so many of because I like to try different products. I also like different colors for different looks. For today, I want something not to over the top so I'm going to use the Maybelleine Fit Me. After applying my foundation, my face looks flat so I like to add dimension in with concealer. I also apply concealer over my lids when I'm not wearing eyeshadow. I also apply concealer liberally under my eyes  and on the center of the face from top to bottom.

Powder:

Okay! We are almost to the finish line. For Powder, my go to products are the Coty Airspun Translucent Powder for setting my concealer and either MAC Studio Fix Powder in NW45. I usually bake for a few minutes, unless I'm rushing I will skip baking with Translucent powder and just use my Studio Fix powder

Contour
For everyday, I don't Cream contour, but I almost always go in with a darker powder to add some of the shadows back to my face. For warmth, I like to use the Covergirl Ebony Bronzer and for contour I use Mac's Film Noir, which is a blush but it's the perfect contour for my skin without being over the top. I apply contour on the outer perimeter of my face and on the  sides of my nose.

Contoured
After that, I usually spray with Setting Spray, fill in my brows, pop on some lipstick (using Stone Fox here) and I am good to go.
