Let me let you in on a little beauty "secret". If you are looking for healthy glowing skin, blush and highlight is your best beauty weapon!

For that reason alone, highlighters and blushes are my favorite types of beauty products and probably the only products I have to wear daily.

When it comes to highlighters, I prefer a natural highlighted look and as far as blushes the brighter the better as you will see from my faves. Let's take a quick at some of my favorite Highlighter and Blushes that you have to try out!

Mac Cosmetics Powder Blush Film Noir | $23

This rich warm chocolate blush is the perfect dramatic contour powder for me. I love Mac blushes because they have just the right amount of buildable pigmentation and the colors are super flattering on the skin. Film Noir lasts all day making it perfect for a night out. This powder is best suited for darker skin because it is super deep, but Mac also has Blunt for anyone who is has light to medium skin.

 

Makeup Forever Pro Light Fusion Highlighter in Golden | $39

My favorite thing abut the Pro Light Fusion highlighter has to be the texture. It almost has like a wet gel like texture and melts into the skin, to give a dewy and almost subtle highlight that can built up for intensity. This has been my go to travel highlighter because it looks amazing with minimal makeup, which I tend to lean towards when I'm on the beach. I also love this because it actually lasts all day and I don't have to worry about glitter particles lingering on my face. You can get it at Sephora here.

Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Face Palette| $59 | Post

This face palette had me at first swatch when I first saw it in Sephora. I'm typically not the type to pick up hyped up products, but I was drawn in by the Prosecco Pop and Rose Spritz. Prosecco Pop is deeper and slighty more golden than Champagne Pop and suits my skin tone so well. I also fell in love with the shimmer in Rose Spritz, which is a Luminous finish blush, because it gives color and shimmer all in one. The highlighters in the palette were a lot more shimmery than I typically go for, but I did enjoy this for an occasional dramatic highlight. This is no longer available in a set, but you can still get Champagne Pop at Ulta and both Champagne and Prosecco Pop at Sephora here.

Bobbi Brown Highlighter in Bronze Glow | $48 | Post

This highlighter has been my go to layering highlighter. It has the perfect amount of glow without being over the top glittery and gives the look of a glow from within. My favorite way to wear this highlighter is paired over a cream highlighter like the Nyx Bright Idea Illuminating Stick for an extra, almost wet look. This highlighter runs for about $48 dollars, but it's honestly worth every penny.

 

Nyx Cosmetics Ombre Blush in Codebreaker | $10 | Post 

This is the first blush that I purchased in last year and was definitely my most used.  I fell in love with the versatility of the Ombre blushes from Nyx because they are so buildable and offer two different shades. Codebreaker is a bright fuchsia that shifts to a violet and I wore this both with a full face and minimal makeup with ease. What initially swatched powdery turned out to be one of the best products I tried all year. You can pick this up about $10 at Ulta here.

Shimmering Skin Perfectors $38

This is the product that kicked off my love affair! I personally love a super intense highlight and these are definitely that. They aren't bestselling for nothing! The finish of the line as a whole is really creamy and extremely pigmented. They also blend out nicely and can be sheered out which I can appreciate especially because I wear these a few days a week to work.

Opal - This is my very first highlighter and is still my favorite for highlighting the center of my face. There is something about the golden pearl tone of this highlighter that really draws attention to my face and for all the right reasons. I can't use it on the tops of my cheeks because it comes off slightly ashy, but I think its a great versatile shade and works for a wide variety of  skin tones.

Champagne Gold- I really love this color on dark skin. It's a true yellow gold and perfect for summer time minimal makeup wear. It was limited edition, but I am so glad I have it in my collection.
  
Moonstone -This little mini came as a part of a Sephora Favorites set I picked up around the holidays. I personally can't wear this icy pale highlighter as an actual highlight on my skin tone, but I do love this as eye shadow and in the inner corner of my eye. It is beautiful and really opens up the eye especially with smokey dark looks.

Luminous Blush in Blushed Copper $34

I first tried out the luminous blush formula in the Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection palette, but this deep copper shade literally gives me life. It's so pretty and is dark enough to really bring out the warm undertones in my collection. I don't ever wear this shade with highlighter because it works well on its own. If you have a similar skin tone to mine, this blush is a must have!

Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Face Palette $59

I almost didn't buy this palette.I tend to stray away from super hyped up products, but as soon as I swatched this in Sephora it had to come home with me. It features Champagne Pop (Peachy Orange Gold) and Prosecco Pop (Light Medium Gold) Shimmering Skin Perfectors, which I found to be beautiful colors that translate well on a variety of skin tones. My favorite part of this palette is hands down Rose Spritz, a Luminous Blush that is raspberry with gold shimmer. Pretty is an understatement! The other blushes in the palette Pamplemousse and Amaretto are also really pretty and blend into the skin well. This was worth the money in my opinion and it definitely holds its weight in my makeup collection.

Afterglow Palette $39 | Post

I picked this palette up for Christmas the year before last because I wanted to add the Rose Gold and Topaz Shimmering Skin Perfectors to my collection without getting full sized products. This is my go to palette for travel because it gives me options and in a pinch can serve as eye shadow, highlighter and blush. It also features two mineral blushes Flower Child and Wild Honey that are so gorgeous on my skin.

First Light Priming Filter $38 | Post

This primer is amazing. It gives the softest glow under makeup. It has a lavender tint and tiny reflective particles that are not noticeable at all. This is holy grail low maintenance makeup for me. I also love the citrus scent. Check out my full review here. 

Soft Light Blurring Powder $38

I did a full review on this product, but long story short I hate this powder. It's an odd color and sits on top of product without blending in. This is the one Becca product that I think can definitely be a pass. Don't buy this...you will thank me later.

Becca Ever Matte Foundation $42 | Post

Although my skin is pretty normal and even kind of dry, in the summer I sweat a lot! This foundation is seriously heat and water proof. When I need a flawless base and I'm going to be outside this is my go to. The finish of this is matte and it offers full coverage, so its not for those I also love the color selection of this line. There is something for every skintone and undertone you can think of and my shade is Mohogany.

Becca Soft Kabuki Brush $30

I got this brush along with the setting powder and although its super soft and luxurious I don't feel like its worth $30.

I honestly feel like the Sephora VIB sale is the sale of all sales in the beauty community. 

Twice a year, Sephora has a 15% off sale for VIB Rouge and VIB, they also offer 10% to Beauty Insiders. Typically, I don't get to participate because I have never been VIB or VIB Rouge, until this year. This was my first year being VIB, so I was more than excited to pick up some new beauty products that I can only get at Sephora.

Although there were so many things that I wanted, I tried to stick to buying things that I couldn't get at Ulta and things that were either re-ups or unique items that my collection could benefit from. So for me that meant no more eyeshadows or eyeshadow palettes, because I am currently saturated in new palettes. I also skipped on picking up any new skincare since I am trying out some Murad products especially for some hyperpigmentation I have been experiencing recently. More to come on that, but lets take a look at what I picked up from the VIB sale.

Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Long Wear Foundation - $47

I have raved about this foundation before because it is truly my hold grail coverage and finish wise. If you haven't tried this out, this foundation is full coverage without feeling heavy on the skin. It also lasts all day, which is essential in this NOLA heat. Now, I typically don't let the girls in Sephora match me, because the lighting is weird but I think the color she chose, 500 Suede W is  a good match and slightly deeper than 470 Suede W I also have. So I think I'll be rocking this foundation all summer. Definitely worth the investment in my opinion.

Sephora Bright Future Gel Serum Concealer - Dulce de Leche - $14

I have been seeing some many other beauty lovers rave about this concealer that I had to finally try it out. I know that I'm super late to the party, but it felt really good when I swatched it. This may just become my new favorite concealer. It's also really affordable in comparison to the Urban Decay Naked Skin and Tarte Shape Tape, so either way it was worth a try to me.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick - Lovecraft - $20

I really love the formula of the Kat Von D liquid lipsticks, but haven't really picked up any since I first got Lolita and Backstage Bambi so I decided Lovecraft would be the perfect addition to my collection. It is a medium mauve nude pink, which I personally love for summer. Actually, I would wear mauve lipstick everyday if I could so I'm super stoked to have this lipstick. The formula of these agrees with my ultra dry lips.

Sephora Cream Lipstain - Bohemian Purple - $14

This lipstick from Sephora is also one of the products that I see constantly hyped up on social media, that I figured I should try out since it was on sale. This lipstain performed amazing! It was ultra comfortable and the color applied with full opacity on one swipe. My favorite thing is that I lasted long, but as it did wear down it faded nicely. The color I got was Bohemian Purple, cool midtone gray purple, and is right up my alley color wise. There are so many shades in this range and I definitely will be picking up more colors

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Luminous Blush - Blushed Copper - $34

This blush from Becca has been on my wishlist since it was released as a limited edition Shimmering Skin Perfector like 2 years ago. I think it is the perfect summer glow for dark skin and I couldnt resist picking this up. Becca does highlighting face products really well and this is no exception. The quality of this is amazing. It's finely milled and so radiant. I have been wearing this every day since I got it and thoroughly enjoy it.

About two weeks ago, I was lucky enough to have Influenster send me a few products to try from Becca for free! First, if you don't know what Influenster is, it's basically a website that allows you to test products from brands for free based on social media influence. Anyway, back to Becca...

Becca recently released some new complexion products and I was lucky enough to receive them and I was beyond excited to try them out. They released a brand new primer called the First Light Priming Filter in Refresh as well a blurring setting powder called Soft Light Blurring Powder in the shade Golden Hour. These products are available at Sephora, on the Becca Website, and at Ulta.

 

 First Light Priming Filter ($38)

According to the Becca Website, this primer is made to immediately "even out, cool, smoothe, restore and energize the skin. It has Special crystal technology scatters light to erase the look of shadows & creates a clear, flawless face."  It also has Sodium hyaluronate & prickly pear to capture moisture to plump & rejuvenate skin and is 70% water. Blue Flamenco creates the cool lavender hue of First Light that brightens & evens while ginger energizes and the cool cast of first light combats tired skin.

The main claims of this primer is to combat dullness, fatigue, dehydration, puffiness and fine lines.

This primer is nothing like the original Back Light priming filter from Becca. The shimmer is much more subdued and this one has a lavender tint and really fine shimmer particles, that do not translate as glittery on the skin at all. It has a light citrus scent, that is not noticeable at all once applied to the skin.

I have been wearing this for about a week and a half and have fallen in LOVE with this primer. Not only does it give a brightened look under foundation, but it sits well under any foundation that I apply it under and amplifies the effect. I love how hydrating it feels and gives off dewy goodness. To apply, one pump was more than enough for me. I also noticed that my makeup lasts much longer when I wore this primer. I also noticed that it does help with the appearance of the fine lines in my face, especially my smile lines.

Soft Light Blurring Powder in Golden Hour ($38) and Kabuki Brush ($30)

The other products I got to try out is the Soft Light Blurring Powder and a Kabuki Brush to apply it with. This powder is supposed to  "add dimension to the skin and act as a filter and blur out pores. The unique, plush, micro-fine texture creates a flattering veil that does not cake or settle into fine lines & pores. Ceramic microspheres scatter light to create a delicate, velvety finish that smooths, evens & perfects the complexion."

This powder is has a peach beige tinge to it and on my skin was not translucent. For that reason I would say it is not suited for really light and really dark skin tones, as the color just kind of sits on the skin.

Although, I love the texture of this powder I absolutely HATE the way it looked on my skin. It looked really cakey and did not blend out flawlessly at all when paired with liquid foundation. I tried it with at least 3 different foundations and in every case it just kind of sat on top of my skin.

Maybe I am applying it wrong, I tried it under my eyes and it looked bad and did not blend out smoothly at all. I then tried it as an all over face powder and it made me look ashy. It safe to say that I am just not feeling this powder for my skin. It was so bad that I had to take my foundation off and reapply in the look featured below.

 The Soft Kabuki brush was really soft and felt luxurious. It's dense, but not too dense and is perfect for applying all over face color.

All in all, I loved two out of the three products I was sent. The brush and the primer are everything and totally worth the price point. The powder on the other hand, yea don't buy it. The quality isn't there, especially for the price point.

My personal favorite in this bunch is Backstage Bambi (vivid pink) and there are two new shades in this set that have just been released (Plath and Roxy).

I picked up this palette a few months ago and I absolutely love it. This palette is perfect for your highlighter obsessed friend because it gives a sample of all of the best Becca products. Champagne and Prosecco Pop are too die for. I also love the blushes in this palette because they are universally flattering for a wide range of skin tones.

This new blush palette is also a good option for anyone who loves glow and complexion products. It features 2 Ultra popular Becca blush shades, Songbird which is in the mineral blush formula and Snapdragon a luminous finish coral blush. The palette also features Wisteria, a soft rose, that is exclusive to this palette. Totally worth checking out!

Lorac Pro 2  Palette $44

This is my all time favorite cool palette and is perfect for any eye shadow newbie who wants to try out quality shadows but not totally break the budget. The shadows in this palette are easy to blend and are super smooth

Urban Decay Spectrum Palette $55

This palette is perfect for the color lover. It features 21 shades for every shade of the spectrum. Urban Decay has amazing shadow quality and this one is definitely on my radar this season!

In my opinion, Sephora offers some of the best Makeup Samplers. If you're like me and really love to try out things before you buy full size products, you're going to love the set I am have to show you today

A few weeks ago, I was able to pick up the latest Sephora's Favorites set. It's called "Trendy: Beauty Most Coveted" and it features 12 of this seasons hottest products. From makeup staples to the original Beautyblender and Laura Mercier translucent Powder to hot new products like the Estee Edit Kohl Shadowstick and the new Urban Decay Vice Lipstick. This set has is it all. But is it worth giving it a try?
This kit retails for $75 for 5 full size products and 7 samples. When I checked Sephora.com, this was unavailable but I got mine in store so if you're interested do not hesitate to go hunting for this.

For $75, this set would make an amazing gift for someone who is new to beauty or for those of use who love beauty and love to try out sample before buying the full size product

I've only had this for about 2 weeks so I haven't had a enough time to try everything and give a review, so this is more like a first impression. A few of the items, mainly the concealer, would never work for my skin tone, but I will still try to speak to the consistency of the product.

I own a pink one that needs to be replaced so this is one of the main reasons I picked up the set. The original beautyblender never ever fails me for foundation application that looks flawless.

Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Moonstone 0.08 oz

I have this in the Afterglow palette and love it as an eye shadow on my skin tone. if you have not tried out the Shimmering skin perfectors you need to. If you have, then you know these highlighter have the maximum amount of glow. I will probably add this to my travel makeup bag. I have a post about this highlighter here.

Benefit Cosmetics Ka-Brow! in Shade 3 (0.03 oz) 

Benefit makes awesome brow products.  so I was excited to see Kabrow in this set.  Shade 3 is a bit light for my dark brown hair, but this will actually work for the front half of my brows. I wonder how this compares to my beloved Anastasia Dip brow.

Cover FX Enhance Click in Bubbly (0.17 oz)

This is supposed to be a full sized cream highlighter, but its fairly small. As you can see from the swatches, this swatches quite beautiful and feels lovely on the skin. I love to pair cream highlighters with powders (post). So I am definitely going to try this one out with my fave Bobbi Brown highlighter.

The Estée Edit The Edgiest Kohl Shadowstick in 01 Black Viper (0.04 oz) 

According to Youtube, the Estee Edit is the hottest new line out. This kohl pencil is really nice. It swatches super black and once set will not budge. I had trouble getting this off my skin. I personally love using kohl pencils and shadow sticks as a base for powder shadows. I also think this would be nice for the waterline.

FOREO LUNA™ Play in Fuchsia

This item was one of the things I was most excited to try out this little face washing device. It's waterproof and is good for up to 90 uses. I can't wait to use this on my upcoming vacation. If it works out. I might finally jump on the Clarisonic or Foreo train.

Glamglow® Supermud® (0.3 oz)

About a year or so ago, Glamglow was all that people were talking about. So I was really excited to see the Supermud mask in this kit. The full size mask is like 60 dollars, but in my opinion good skin care is worth it. So If I love this, I will def pick up the full size.

0.02 oz Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper 0.02 oz (full size) 

This liner is amazing. It's black and makes putting on eyeliner super simple, so I was stoked to see a full size one in this kit. It is very beginner friendly and is a great asset to this set. I also love that this is long lasting. It took major scrubbing to get the swatch off of my arm

Laura Mercier Travel Size Translucent Loose Setting Powder + Puff (0.33 oz)

I actually hauled this powder a while and go and fell in love with it (post here). I love that this was included, because this product is truly a game changer for those new to beauty or for those who find that this is a pricey product on its own. The travel size of this is $23 on its own with the puff.

NARS Cosmetics Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard (0.04 oz)

The Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer is one of the most talked about and loved high end concealers. I personally haven't tried it, but several of my friends swear by the formula. The shade in the kit is "Custard". This shade is super light and is of no use to me personally. I wish there was an option to customize this portion of the kit so that a wider group of skin tones can try out this concealer.

Tarte Marine Boosting 4-in-1 Mist (0.24 oz)

This Tarte setting spray is marketed as a 4 in 1 primer, setting spray, hydrating mist, and skin refresher. I am always looking for a good setting spray so I am kind of intrigued and excited to try out this spray.

 Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in 714 (0.11 oz) 

After hearing so many good things about the new Vice lipsticks from UD, I am excited to try out this formula. I own several of the Matte Revolution lipsticks from the old line. So my hopes are high for this one. 714 is a true red, which means it will look good on an array of skin tones.

Final Thoughts

The only drawbacks to this kit, it the shades of the Nars concealer and the Kabrow. These shades aren't universally flattering and I believe that there should be two versions of the kit, with one that caters to darker tones of skin.

Overall, I love this kit though. The variety is awesome and I love that it includes 5 full size products. This is a good sampler for beauty enthusiasts and makeup newbies alike. If you plan to get this set, run to your local Sephora and grab it before they sell out.

August was a month that was all about the glow up for me. Besides wearing copious amounts of highlighter , my beauty focus has been on glowing skin and matte metallic lips. Metallic lips done right are so pretty in my opinion. I tend to mix colors or even add a metallic lip stick in the center of my lips as a touch of something extra to a matte lip. Today, I want to show you some products you absolutely check out this month if you are on the market for some new new.

Nyx Bright Idea Illuminating Sticks | Post This has been my go to highlighter base since I picked them up at the end of July. I have been in love with Champagne Shimmer specifically. It pairs well with all of my favorite highlighters like Champagne Pop and Lorac Cosmetics Twilight. These are also really pretty on their own. I love to wear Pinkie Dust alone for a touch of glow. Wearing Ruthy Mixed with Milani Chromatic Addict Cloured Raine Matte Lip Paint in Ruthy | Post I picked up this lip paint a few months ago and I am so in love with the formula. It's metallic, but not over the top and is so comfortable. Ruthy is a greyed mauve color  with soft shimmer and will be perfect to transition into fall.    Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation | Post  This foundation was a recent pick up for me as a part of my pre fall haul to replace my favorite Lancome foundation. OMG! I love this. The finish is flawless and it last all day. I have been alternating this foundation with the L'oreal Pro Glow I mentioned above for when I am wearing a bit more makeup. This is definitely an all occasion foundation. It doesn't feel too heavy and I also don't have to use a lot to get a pretty finish, which is a major key for me. If you haven't tried this, you definitely should.   L'oreal Pro Glow Foundation This has easily become my favorite foundation for everyday. I also own the Infallible Pro Matte, but  think I like this a little better. It offers medium buildable coverage and feels really good on the skin. I also love the finish, it gives a soft glow without looking oily. This also lasts all day and doesn't breakdown like some other dewy foundations that I have tried. This face palette has been so good to me all summer! The colors are so beautiful. I love the finish of Champagne and Prosecco Pop. They definitely give different but still stunning effects on the skin. The highlighters in this palette have the same quality as the regular Becca Shimmering Skin Perfectors and are shimmery, but not glittery. The Standout in this palette has definitely been the Luminous finish Blush Rose Spritz. It is such a gorgeous blush and gives a color punch along with some gleam. I have been wearing this the most and it is the most gorgeous mid tone pink with gold shimmer. I have thoroughly gotten my full use out of this palette. High End Foundation is one of those makeup party that I really didn't get too heavy into until about 5 years ago. Before that, I was a ride or die Revlon Color stay fan. I then ventured into MAC Studio Fix Fluid and fell in love, but over the past couple of years I have ventured out and I want to share some of my go to foundations. 

Sephora Teint Infusion

This is the most recent foundation purchase that I made. This is one of most beautiful natural finish foundations I have tried in a long time. This foundation is my everyday foundation because its light to medium coverage and is really comfortable on the skin. It has a really thin consistency almost like water, but the finish is sooo pretty. I would not recommend this for people who want to cover up imperfections or need heavy coverage as it does not provide that, but it does give my skin a refreshed skin like glow.

Best Uses: Everyday, "No Makeup" Makeup

Lancome Teint Idole

Teint Idole is one of those foundations I picked up on a whim after Lupita N'yongo became the spokesperson, but the first time I put this on I fell in love. The finish is matte and gives a flawless, yet natural look to the skin. It has buildable lightweight coverage and controls oil. I wear this anytime there is a special occasion and I know i will be photographed. Although I personally would not, this foundation can be worn without powder and still be beautiful. It lasts ALL day without looking cakey or horrible. I am so sad that I broke my most recent bottle, but had to mention this as it is usually always a part of my makeup routine. For application, I like to use a large buffer brush for even application or a damp Beauty Blender to really work the Product into the skin.

Becca Ever Matte Shine Proof Foundation

Becca is at the top of the game when it come to complexion products. They have awesome formulas and a huge shade range, making it possible for everyone to find the right match. The Ever Matte foundation is specifically made for combination to oily skin and is an excellent oil controller. I have dry skin, but the humidity in NOLA during most of the year is a beast so this is my go to for outside events. It is also supposed to minimize pore and fine lines and this totally does that for me. If you have oily skin, but want that perfected full coverage finish, you should try this out.

Mac Studio Fix Fluid| POST

I won't go overboard on how much I love this foundation, but as I mentioned above this is my favorite liquid foundation. It is my go to for when I want to look good. I wear NW45 in the fall and NW47 in the spring and summer and the color match is perfect. I have heard people talk about oxidation on this, but I do not experience that. This foundation offers full coverage without being heavy and also works well with other complexion products.

Fashion Fair Fast Finish Foundation Stick

I actually started using Fashion Fair because of my aunt, but I absolutely love this stick foundation. This brand is formulated for women of color and the quality is top notch. It goes on smooth and provides amazing coverage that feels like powder once its on. When I tell you this is full coverage, it is full coverage but the color match is perfect for me as it captures my undertones perfectly. This retails for about 30 dollars, but I buy 2 at a time because it sells out so quickly.
